craft hope for creatures

I successfully completed my mission to upcycle a variety of items into washclothes/washrags to send to the Craft Hope mission.
This was one example of using the pantlegs of stained/outgrown fleece 18 month pants and the shirt sleeve of an outgrown toddler t-shirt to make the hem. (not sure why the top is pointy looking for this pic - it isn't in real life!). I used fabric paint to add the "hope" words.
I "hope" my supply helps save at least one animal from this horrific environmental disaster.

Crafting for the Creatures

Are you as devastated as I am at the images of the wildlife in the Gulf right now? Have basic sewing, knitting or crafting skills and ready to H.E.L.P?

visit Craft Hope and find out information on simple quick projects you can do to help dolphin and sea turtles. I have a pile of stained kids' t-shirts, baby towels, spit rags and will be upcycling them tonight for the cause. Will you join me?
THEY need our help.

Project #3,025 bubble skirts

Ok, so it isn't really project 3,025. More realistic would be project number 125. Considering I think I blew out my bobbin well (AGAIN) it really might take awhile to get these done.

I adore bubble skirts and how fun would playing around in one be? DD1 thinks dressing like DD2 would be fun so perhaps I will get to this soon?

Kitchen

Our kitchen is so retro now -- last redone in 1940 and as ugly as you can imagine. Unfortunately, it isn't that easy to redo. There are FIVE doors into this room the movement and ability to use something helpful (like an island) might be impossible. Also, we probably need it rewired, need to add a dishwasher, and to fix the sagging floors (the 100 year house is well built except for that one small condition!

I haven't even brought up the possibility with my husband. I want to have an easy, low budget idea before discussing it! Nothing huge, just to cover the ugly 40's era yellow laminate kitchen countertops (and a small area should make that cheap), refinish the walls -- tile on the backsplash section of the counter/sink wall (also small area) and repaint the walls and cabinet (plus new pulls), and the floor needs some cheap new floor covering (laminate would be better than what we have!). I am fine with our old crap, but need to realize that it should at least look better with a cheap cosmetic touchup.

Plus, I just love looking at other people's great ideas. So, I am going to record new ideas here.

Love this look (and it isn't too off what ours looks like)

A fabulous tutorial for a bubble sundress

I was afraid I would lose this in my "favorites" file so I am putting it here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/polkanuts/sets/72157623918030903/

Current sewing goals:
1. Finish birthday present for daughter to take on Sun. (skirt & monogrammed t-shirt)
2. Make a belated b-day present for my aunt: ruffled coasters
3. Make above bubble dress for DD1
4. Upholster cushion on chair (you know, with the fabric I have had for 3 months!!!)
5. Sew cousins' wedding present (since they have been married for 5 months now...I have had some trouble finding inspiration for them until now).

Bean Bags for Hope

My first post. While I have been sewing like a maniac lately, I must say I found it appropriate that the first official post has to do with a volunteer project using simple sewing skills. Love it -- combines my love for sewing and love of education in one project.
